Most everyone has wireless Internet in their homes and offices. However, the efficiency in which it reaches its intended devices and equipment can differ. Variables range from the size of the area to the speed and type of connection.
An Access Point is a hardware device that creates a wireless local area network (WLAN). It connects to a wired router, switch, or hub via an Ethernet cable, and sends a Wi-Fi signal to a specific area.
A Range Extender is used to widen the coverage area of your Wi-Fi network, even as far as your yard. It connects wirelessly and is placed where the Wi-Fi router’s signal is already strong, not in the actual dead spot. But extenders are essentially repeaters. So, for every one you install to repeat the signal from the base, it loses half its strength.
A Wi-Fi Network Extender is an adapter that’s plugged into an electrical/cable outlet and connected to the router, bridging the home network to the electrical/cable lines. Then another adapter with built-in Wi-Fi is connected to another outlet in the home to extend the Wi-Fi network to that new area. Like the Range Extender, you lose signal with every additional extender.
Maximizing your signal is a decision that needs careful consideration. What are the benefits and advantages of each?
For your office:
Access Points are generally a better choice because they create their own wireless local area network. For example, in a suite of offices or an average commercial building, there is generally just one router. HT-Install can run the Ethernet cables to set up the access points throughout the workspace. Then a Wi-Fi signal can reach designated areas, such as the reception area and the front two offices, followed by the conference room, and then the next group of offices and so on.
Another advantage of Access Points for the office is the customizations your IT manager can make such as added security features and the freedom to scale the number of devices supported on your network.
For your home:
Again Access Points are a better choice! Why wouldn’t you want the best possible reception in all parts of your home and outdoor property? Strategically placed access points will accommodate the bedroom in the furthest corner of the house and the gazebo on the other end of the yard without loss of strength. And if you build an addition or reconfigure any living space, HT-Install’s professionals can simply add more Access Points!
HT-Install’s professional team of technicians can place access points just where you need them, in your home or business, and including outdoor spaces. You’ll never suffer a missed signal again! Call 561- 305-8141 today!
